💥Hello Alaskans! Here's your chance for help with housing!💥
The Alaska Housing Finance Corp. has opened up applications for Housing Choice vouchers that can be used in Anchorage. Deadline: April 30, 1 p.m. Don't delay! https://www.ahfc.us/
These vouchers allow those eligible to find a unit in the private market, and AHFC pays a portion of the rent directly to the landlord. This is a rare opportunity that only happens every couple of years. Everyone who qualifies will get on the waiting list and all who apply by the deadline will have an equal chance at being at or near the top of the list. (Income cutoff is 50% of the area median, or $45,150 for one person; $64,500 for a family of four.) 👀
🏡 Our team can help our unhoused neighbors apply. AHFC also offers help.
This could be your chance to step into a new-to-you home!

One great aspect of our two-day summit — Anchorage's Coordinated Response to Homelessness — was the venue! Thank you to @southcentralfoundation for Nuka Learning and Wellness Center. This beautiful space brought the outside in and set the stage for a phenomenal event.

ACEH is thankful for partners like Downtown Hope Center for collaborating to prepare and deliver meals to those experiencing unsheltered homelessness.
During high fire danger conditions, meal delivery helps minimize the risk of cooking fires. Thank you @DSKHopeCenter! 💞

For every 100 Alaska families with an extremely low income, there are 36 affordable AND available rental homes. In other Western states, plus Texas and Florida, things are even worse.
A new national report underscores the magnitude of need we recently witnessed when more than 1,300 Anchorage households applied for emergency rental assistance. The funds in hand could cover only about 20.

"There are really three barriers to going to shelter: possessions, pets, and people."
— Meg Zaletel, executive director, Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness
Anchorage is doing better on the people front, with shelters providing ways for families and couples to stay together. We are doing better with pets, too, though more options are needed, Meg says.
Possessions present the real dilemma. Because to go into a shelter, a person generally must fit all they have into two totes or leave it behind.
Listen to Meg's insights on the two-tote problem and the system as a whole presented at last week's Summit on Anchorage's Coordinated Response to Homelessness: https://www.youtube.com/live/n9o1CzWDKVc?si=oixSehF7EG2pFdgs&t=2520

Our community shows up! Thank you for an awesome Day 1 at Summit: Anchorage's Coordinated Response to Homelessness. We kept people in the center of the conversation all day. One of many highlights: a panel discussion with youth who have experienced homelessness. Watch it back and catch today's event on YouTube @MOAMeetings.
