Hard work to end homelessness happens every day at nonprofits around the country. Yet sometimes the helpers, especially those of color, don't make enough to cover their own basic needs, including housing.
What can be done? Fair salaries are a start.
New study by @naeh_endhomelessness reveals the startling statistics and offers solutions. Link in our bio or here: https://endhomelessness.org/resource/race-ing-to-thrive-homeless-service-workforce-survey-reveals-low-salaries-and-other-challenges-more-greatly-impact-people-of-color/

For the first time, our community is using a by-name list prioritizing those who are most vulnerable for entry into cold weather shelter.
It's working. Almost all of the 325 people who stayed in cold weather shelter during the first three weeks had at least one disability, and half had three or more disabilities.

Our community gives back!
The @foodbankofalaska is holding its annual Thanksgiving Blessing in Anchorage on *Monday* to provide everything needed to cook a complete Thanksgiving meal for those with a full kitchen. Volunteers needed, too! Click here for more information: https://foodbankofalaska.org/blessing/

On Veterans Day, let’s honor those who serve and acknowledge that veteran homelessness exists in our community. Through partnership and connection, we can find successful housing outcomes for our veterans, like we did this summer for Jeramy.

***Data tells the story!***
👉 For the first time in 9 months, more people are flowing into the homelessness services system than are flowing out.
🏠 Reason: Housing programs are full.
🙏 Over the past week, 200 people who had been living outdoors moved into cold weather shelter. That's about 40% of our unsheltered neighbors!
💯 We need more housing!

Thanks to our executive director, Meg Zaletel, for putting together this snapshot!
